Service based business can be the most difficult in which to measure profitability. All kinds of issues can impact the difference between what is charged to a client and the cost of delivering the service.

The most challenging types of services are those engagements that are ‘fixed quote’, involving a ‘scope’ of services. These are becoming more prevalent as clients become savvy and there is more competition.
